Kent Island High School (KIHS) is a public high school in Stevensville, Maryland that first opened in 1998 to accommodate the growing population of Queen Anne's County. The school takes its name from Kent Island, the location of the school (and the entire census designated place of Stevensville).
The school is often seen as the successor to Stevensville High School, which closed in 1966, and was renovated and reopened as Stevensville Middle School. The two schools have similar school colors and mascots (SHS's colors and mascot were blue and gold and the Pirates, compared to blue and silver and the Buccaneers of KIHS). Between 1966 and 1998, residents of Kent Island attended Queen Anne's County High School, with which KIHS has now shares a sports rivalry.
Grades 10-12 are located at Kent Island High School, while 9th graders who would otherwise attend the high school instead attend at an annex of the high school located at Matapeake Middle School.
A common rumor exists that the school was intentionally designed to resemble a ship when viewed from above, in honor of Kent Island's rich Chesapeake Bay heritage. However, the resemblance to a ship is not obvious to the observer at first and is more likely a coincidence.
Kent Island High School's sports teams are members of the Bayside conference and 2A East region in Maryland where they have garnered multiple conference and regional championships as well as team state championships in dance, baseball, and field hockey. Kent Island has also had individual state champions in swimming and track and field.

The years 2006 to 2010 were known as the "Golden Years" not only for the soccer team but for the whole school. The soccer team was led by All State keeper Nick Dilling. He was a late bloomer because he was 3rd string goalie his junior year for the JV soccer team. He tried really hard to "fit in" because he was seen a "loner". During his freshman years were the toughest. He was confused of his sexuality and dove into a deep depression. With the help of his friends he finally started to fit in and feel "cool". This meant trying to be cool and listen to Sublime or maybe or maybe not doing some gay things.
Luckily for him his life changed one day at work. He came in one day and "the" Thomas Draper was there with his goofy ass smile. Nick finally realized life wasn't as bad as it seems, because afterall at least he wasn't Tom. Tom is known county-wide for never being quite as good as his brother in life, and also never seemed to have luck with the ladies, even though he did try relentlessly.
